I have always loved the story and memories behind a moment in time. I am the type of person that has a million photos because I try to capture every moment. I am a very sentimental person and I love talking to people about their personal histories and memories. Everyone has a story and special moments in their own unique timeline of life. I will be offering custom illustrated timelines in my Easy.com store. A timeline can be any series of moments in your or a loved one's life. Maybe you want to illustrate a timeline for an anniversary gift or a birthday. In that case I would take between 5 to 10 moments in a lifetime and illustrate those moments in a timeline format. Another great idea for a timeline gift is for graduation or a special trip you took. I take moments and make a visual snap shot to remember them by. They make great conversation pieces because everyone will want to know the story behind the illustrated moment. Coming soon!

Wow, time has passed! I went on a two week road trip from California to Washington and lost track of time when I got back. I usually try to have blog posts more evenly spaced. In other news, I have been working on my business and setting up my soon-to-be Etsy.com store front. The Etsy.com store front will be where you, yes you, will be able to find a variety of custom illustrations that will be available for purchase. I will be doing custom portraits, pet portraits, house illustrations and timelines, just to name a few. Start thinking now about a special someone, including yourself, who might want a custom illustration as a special gift and keepsake. I just made a video on some of my old sketchbooks. Two of them are from when I was in an art education program and they are pretty unique, not the typical store bought sketchbooks. They are filled with all sorts of topics and art styles. I always love looking at other people's sketchbooks. Take and look and enjoy!

I used to not like pie at all except for the annual pumpkin pie but as I have gotten older I have started liking all types of pie. I didn't think I liked Key Lime Pie but I recently tried a piece at a party and now I can say I do like it. What is your favorite type of pie?
For J I chose Jalapeño, not because I like them all that much, but because of a memory. One year for the Super Bowl we thought it would be a good idea to make bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers as our appetizer. We bought a ton of jalapeños and started to clean them and taking out the seeds when about halfway through we realized it was very unwise to do that process without gloves on. Our hands were burning and the burning didn't go away for a few days. I will never forget how painful that was. Hopefully you don't have a story like me or a worse story. Enjoy!
I have always loved ice cream in all forms. Nothing beats some nice cool ice cream on a hot Californian summer day. For this artwork I focused on the simple ice cream cone. I picked mint and soft serve in a waffle cone. I don't have much to say about a background story for this artwork, it just looks yummy!
I was thinking one day how much I love to learn about people's lives. I am really interested in someone's background stories and their history. I think this is why I am always drawn to autobiographies and documentaries. You can learn so much from what someone has done during their lifetime. One day as I was sitting listening to a panel of artist talk about their life journeys and how they got to where they are now I thought of an idea to illustrate people's stories in a timeline style. The first one I ever created was for my father-in-law and mother-in-law's 25th wedding anniversary. I illustrated just a few of the events in the 25 years they have been together. My goal is to have other people ask me for their life timelines illustrated. I believe it is a wonderful way to learn about someone, share significant events and create interesting artwork. A life timeline would be a wonderful birthday, graduation, anniversary and wedding gift to yourself or others. What events would you illustrate in your life timeline?
I go way back with the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. I adopted my cat Sophie from there when she was only 5 months old, that was 12 years ago. I think she would still be there if I had not chosen her, since she is such a shy little thing. I love to give back to the shelter and when they opened a new cat section a few years ago I created a mural for one of the new rooms. Recently I was back at the shelter to donate towels and a cat bed when I was asked if I could do a second mural in the kitten room. I was so excited to get the chance to paint a whole new mural. I chose the underwater theme to represent Seal Beach and thought up funny cat characters, like the Mercat, to live in the pretend world. I did the mural in two days with the help of some volunteers. I listened to jazz and just got into the flow of painting, it was very relaxing. I also was in the room with a few kittens. They slept in the corner, just happy someone was in the room with them. If you would like to see the mural in person please visit sbacc.org to get directions and hours. You may walk away with a new kitten friend as well.

During spring break I completed a few projects, took lots of walks and worked on a mural for Seal Beach Animal Care Center. I took short videos throughout the week and put them all together so you can take a peek inside the life of an illustrator. Click on photo below to go to the video.
I love hummus. It is something I totally would have never eaten back in my picky eater days but once I tried it I was hooked. I love it as a dip, spread and even salad dressing. I love all the different varieties but you can't beat good fresh hummus from a restaurant. I love hummus on a good gyro (see below). Do you enjoy hummus or are you one of those people that can't get past the texture?
