O is for oatmeal. Oatmeal is my usual breakfast most days. I used to need super sweet instant oatmeal but little by little I got used to the plain oatmeal with just cinnamon. Growing up, my dad would have plain oatmeal everyday. I always thought it seemed so boring and bland but it turns out that it is the perfect breakfast. For my illustration I decided to make my oatmeal a little more pretty than usual.

N is the next letter in my Alphabet Food series. Nachos are one of the great snack foods, especially in California. Growing up I loved just making simple nachos with tortilla chips and some cheddar cheese shredded over the top. As I have grown up I have come to appreciate those super loaded up nachos, with veggies and meat. One type I just can't eat are the nachos with fake nacho cheese and brownish green jalapeños that are usually found at baseball games or movie theaters. Prints of this illustration will be available on my Society6 account.
I had the pleasure of creating a custom pet portrait for my friend Jason Espiritu of his dog Ace. Ace is the mascot and co-owner of Ace Pet Services. He is full of energy and always on alert, ready for the next adventure. Jason sent me a few photos and I chose the one that I thought showed Ace's unique expression of curiosity. I really enjoy taking the information and photos people send me about their pets and turning it into a unique and special portrait that they can cherish always.
If you are in need of pet services such as pet sitting or dog walking, Ace Pet Services is the company for you. Jason runs his business with integrity and true appreciation of all pets and their owners. One of my favorite services he offers is taking dogs on hikes around the Los Angeles area. He takes dogs out to get exercise in the beauty and adventure of a variety of hiking trails. Visit his website to check out what they have been up to. http://acepetservices.net/ If you wish you could have a portrait made of your special pet check out my etsy site (heathernorrisart.etsy.com) to order your very own. M is for Muffin. I love Muffins but I rarely have them because they are pretty much like dessert for breakfast and usually I don't like too many sweet treats for breakfast. My favorite type of muffin is chocolate chocolate chip but for this illustration I chose pumpkin because we have entered fall and all anyone can talk about is pumpkin everything. A good pumpkin muffin with a hot coffee is one of my favorite fall time treats. I rarely bake but in the fall I will make my fair share of pumpkin muffins. What is your favorite type of muffin?
You can find this original illustration on my Etsy site and you can find prints, cards and other products featuring this muffin on my Society 6 site. heathernorrisart.etsy.com society6.com/thearthabit I have had a long break in my alphabet food series but now I am back at i with a sweet treat.. For "L" I chose to illustrate a lollypop because it are just so pretty and fun to draw. I never was a lollypop type of kid. I didn't care if I got one after being good at the doctors and it was not the first thing that grabbed my attention at a candy store. I am more of a chocolate lover than any other type of candy, but they are nice to look at. When you think of typical childhood candy, a lollypop is probably the first thing you think of. It is part of childhood and love them or hate them I am sure we all got one as a kid for doing something good. You can find this original illustration on my Etsy site and you can find prints, cards and other products featuring this lollypop on my Society 6 site.

It has been a long journey to get to this point but today I finally opened my Etsy shop. It was kinda scary to push that publish and open my shop button. The thoughts about how I feel like I don't know what I am doing, in terms of running a business, came flooding to mind but I know everything will work itself out. I am anxiously waiting my first order and seeing how the process goes. I am so excited to be taking on a dream I have had since I was a kid, to sell my artwork. It is really amazing that these days there are so many outlets for selling artwork. it used to be that you pretty much either had to be in a gallery or a street fair but now you can reach customers so many places, and I am super thankful for that.
You can visit my Easy shop at HeatherNorrisArt.etsy.com. Have you ever wanted your own portrait? Have you ever wanted to get a unique gift for your friend or family member, something that really stood out? Well, an illustrated custom portrait is for then! I love capturing the unique characteristics of people in my portraits. There are usually a few things that stand out about a person that make it possible for someone looking at the illustration recognize who it is. I try to add little details, like a favorite color or hair style or facial expression to really nail down who the portrait is illustrating. Customized illustrated portraits really do make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements, families and much more.
My cats both have unique personalities that bring me joy ( and sometimes annoyance) everyday. I have two cats that love to hang out with me when I am creating artwork, usually by laying on top of whatever I am trying to draw or paint. One of my favorite things to illustrate has been my cats and my friend's pets. Before I draw a pet I like to know what are their unique traits and behaviors. By finding out their qualities as seen through their owner's eyes I can make a portrait that highlights what makes them special. Maybe your pet is quiet and moody, maybe they are hyper and friendly. The challenge of making those qualities come through onto a piece of paper is what makes illustration so fun. Let me illustrate your pet. All types of pets are welcome, even a lizard, if that's your thing.
A watercolor illustrated house portrait is the perfect keepsake for your home or as a gift for your loved ones. It would be a great gift for a new homeowner to commemorate their new journey as a homeowner. With the original illustration I am also offering a high quality digital print that could be used to place onto postcards and sent out as a new home and moving announcement. It is also the perfect gift for clients of real estate agents, interior decorators and contractors. It would be the perfect gift for first time and long time homeowners, weddings, anniversaries, retirements, and birthdays. A custom house portrait is a wonderful reminder of all the happiness, memories and cherished events that will happen and have happen in a home. This one of a kind artwork goes above and beyond the typical snap shot.
