Sometimes to get started it's better to just start with no idea of what you are going to do. Yesterday I was in a teacher workshop and we were told to make a collage out of magazines of anything we wanted. At first I was really resisting it because I had no direction to go in and I felt the pressure of being an artist and "knowing" what I should be doing, but then I started picking out images that just called to me and I made something happen. I ended up with a collage that people really responded to. Even though I started with nothing I made up a story and I was able to come up with a direction to go in. I really got present to the idea of how kids play and just make up things as they go along. We were all good at that once and I know I need to reconnect with that state of mind more to have more fun with my art process.
