My very first art supplies were oil pastels. I had a old checkbook box filled with a variety of colors and brands during my first years as an artist. I loved the texture and the way I could blend them. They were way more interesting than a regular 'ol Crayon. I used Crayons, but only for coloring books. I took my oil pastels with me everywhere along with a pad of scratch paper. One of my favorite places to draw was in the back of the car while my mom took me on long car trips up and over mountains. We did this because my dad would race road bikes and we were the follow car. One of my favorite things to draw were scenes of everyday life and I think that is where I began my love of illustration.
I want to thank my mom for going above and beyond when it came to suppling her child with art supplies that were a little more interesting than the everyday stuff.
